To provide a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas excellent in an exhaust gas diffusibility and capable of suppressing sintering of a noble metal, and to provide its manufacturing method.
The catalyst for cleaning the exhaust gas is provided with: an integration structure type carrier; and a catalyst coat layer overlying the integration structure type carrier. The catalyst coat layer includes a catalyst component, and satisfies a relationship represented by P0.17W-0.04 (1) (P in the formula represents total (ml) of void volume with a fine pore diameter of 0.1-1 m per mass (g) of the catalyst coat layer, and W represents volume (ml) of the catalyst coat layer per mass (g) of the catalyst coat layer). In the manufacturing method of the catalyst for cleaning the exhaust gas, the catalyst component and a slurry containing an activated carbon having an average particle diameter of 1.0 m or less are prepared and then the integration structure type carrier is coated with the slurry, followed by calcination.
