Abstract:
To provide a catalyst for the conversion of a mixed raw material comprising ethylbenzene and xylenes, capable of attaining high conversion of xylenes to p-xylene with a small xylene loss and of exhibiting high ethylbenzene conversion performance at a low reaction temperature, upon causing a mixed raw material comprising ethylbenzene and xylenes to contact the catalyst to convert ethylbenzene present therein primarily to benzene and to isomerize xylenes present therein, and a conversion method using the same.
The catalyst obtained by subjecting a sodium-type MFI zeolite and a chemical liquid comprising a sodium ion and at least one cation other than the sodium ion to an ion exchange treatment is used in the method.
