Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst converter in which a metal monolith to carry a catalyst is stably fixed in a casing made of a metal and to provide a manufacturing method of the converter.
SOLUTION: This catalyst converter is constituted of a monolith 1 made of a metal to carry a catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas, a casing 2 made of a metal, and a monolith-holding material 3, and the monolith is made of a ferrite-type stainless foil and has a honeycomb structure. The monolith-holding material 3 to directly support the monolith 1 is constituted of an alumina-based fibrous mat compressed in the thickness direction and an organic binder with which the alumina-based fibrous mat is uniformly impregnated and which is eliminated by thermal decomposition and moreover the monolith-holding material has specified restoring face pressure at the time of thermal decomposition of the organic binder.
