Abstract:

To detect the deterioration of a catalyst with higher accuracy without installing an additional hydrogen sensor or the like for catalyst deterioration detection.

A catalyst deterioration diagnosis device is applied to an internal combustion engine including a catalyst installed in an exhaust path, a first sensor installed upstream of the catalyst and a second sensor installed downstream of the catalyst. In the catalyst deterioration device, when control for catalyst deterioration diagnosis is executed, an output of the first sensor and an output of the second sensor are detected while an air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is controlled to reach a rich air-fuel ratio. When a detected difference between the first output and the second output exceeds a reference value, catalyst deterioration is detected.
