Abstract:

To provide a hydrogenation catalyst with a high desulfurization activity and denitrification activity so as to reduce sulfur contents in petroleum fraction, especially light oil, and to provide a method for hydrogenating hydrocarbon oil and a method for manufacturing a low-sulfur light oil.

The hydrogenation catalyst is prepared by carrying molybdenum of 10-25 mass%, cobalt and nickel of 2-8 mass% in total, and phosphorus of 0.5-2.0 mass%, and is formed by sulfurization of a hydrogenation catalyst precursor of which the carbon content is 1 mass% or lower and of which the cobalt contents are 60 mol% or more on basis of the total contents of cobalt and nickel. The hydrogenation catalyst contains a molybdenum sulfide crystal with an aspect ratio of 3-4.5.
