PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst for hydrogenation treatment having high desulfurization activity and denitrification activity and excellent in activity holding performance by depositing a hydrogenation active component on a carrier comprising silica-contg. alumina or alumina-contg. material and specifying the grain size of alumina.
CONSTITUTION: This catalyst for hydrogenation treatment consists of a carrier comprising silica-contg. alumina or alumina-contg. material and at least one hydrogenation active component deposited on the carrier. The grain size of alumina is specified to about >35 A, more preferably 35-59 A. The hydrogenation active component is deposited preferably by depositing in the first step, one or more kinds of group VIII metals in the periodic table, namely, iron, cobalt, nickel, palladium, platinum, etc., by an ion exchange method, and then one or more kinds of group VIB metals, namely, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten are deposited in the second step.
