To provide a catalyst for producing hydrogen, which is used for continuing a dehydrogenation reaction stably for a long period of time to generate a large quantity of hydrogen when hydrogen is withdrawn from a hydride of an aromatic hydrocarbon by the dehydrogenation reaction, and to provide a method for producing hydrogen by using the catalyst.
The catalyst for producing hydrogen, which is used in the dehydrogenation reaction that the hydride of the aromatic hydrocarbon is dehydrogenated to produce hydrogen, contains a porous carrier, at least one first metal which is deposited on the porous carrier and selected from the group of consisting of platinum, ruthenium, palladium, rhodium, tin, rhenium and germanium, and at least one second metal which is deposited on the porous carrier and selected from the group consisting of gold, silver and copper. The amount of the second metal to be deposited is 0.5-20 mol% of that of the first metal to be deposited. The method for producing hydrogen comprises a step of dehydrogenating the hydride of the aromatic hydrocarbon by using the catalyst.
