Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst effective for the selective production of para- dialkyl substituted benzene at lower temp. and higher selectivity by constituting the catalyst of a zeolite which is produced from a reaction mixture having no org. component modified with an org. silicone compd. and which has a specified constraint index.
CONSTITUTION: This catalyst consists of a zeolite having constraint index of 1 to 12, which is produced from a zeolite-forming mixture containing no org. organic directing agent and which is modified by the treatment with an org. silicon compd. (e.g. dimethyl silicone). Monoalkyl-substd. benzene having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl substituents is subjected to disproportionation in the presence of the catalyst described above to selectively produce para-dialkyl substd. benzene.
