To obtain a new catalyst composed of a solid catalyst, with a specific transition metal compound on a support, and specific transition metal compound, which gives a polymer having a wide molecular weight distribution and melt tension, and producing little gel fisheye.
This catalyst for producing an ethylene-based polymer suitable for blown film formation is obtained by including (A) a solid catalytic component, (B) a transition metal compound with a group having a conjugate π electron as the ligand, and preferably (C) an organometallic compound. In the above, the solid catalytic component A is prepared by the following processes: a chromium compound unbaked in the presence of oxygen is borne on a support and then baked in the presence of oxygen into a chromium oxide, followed by bearing aluminoxane and a transition metal compound with a group having a conjugate π electron as the ligand on the support.
