PURPOSE: To improve the initial activity and durability of catalysts by adding potassium and tungsten to catalyst carriers to give a change in the carrying stage of noble metals.
CONSTITUTION: Platinum group metals such as platinum, palladium, rhodium or the like having catalytic activity are carried alone or in combination on catalyst carriers such as aluminum carriers. The amts. of the potassium and tungsten to be carried on the carriers other than said noble metals are 0.05W0.3mol potassium per liter of the catalyst and 0.05W0.2mol tungsten, and both are used in combination. Both are carried on the carriers by methods of using an ag. soln. of, for example, tungstate in the case of tungsten and an aq. soln. of carbonate and nitrate in the case of potassium and impregnating the carriers with these solns. then drying and calcining the carriers.
