Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a simple and efficient catalyst for cleaning an exhaustion gas of motor vehicle engines capable of converting nitrogen oxides at a low exhaustion temperature, and to provide a method therefor.
CONSTITUTION: The catalyst contains a first catalytic coating having iridium and platinum with noble metal components within a wt.% range of (1:10) to (10:1), and a second coating layer of a thermally stable zeolite on the first coating layer, and contains a zeolite of mordenite type containing copper and/or iron and its support is composed of a rare earth metal and/or silicon dioxide. The catalyst is useful for cleaning an exhaustion gas of a diesel engine or an Otto engine.
