Abstract:

To provide a catalyst retaining mat with high tensile strength, high bending strength, a high recovery rate after calcining and a high retention of a catalyst carrier even if limiting a binder consumption to the minimum.

A catalyst retaining mat 10 is mounted on a gap between the catalyst carrier 60 for exhaust and a casing 50 to retain the catalyst carrier 60 for exhaust. The catalyst retaining mat 10 comprises alumina fiber for acting as a main ingredient, an inorganic binder and/or an organic binder of 0.1 to 1.0 wt%, and the organic binder composed of natural fiber of 0.5 to 1.5 wt%. A three-dimensional random structure is employed for arrangement of the alumina fiber.
