Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst having high activity and stereospecificity in olefin polymerization without the need of any external electron donar, comprising an active magnesium halide, a titanium compound borne thereon and having a Ti-halogen bond and a cyclopolyene-based diether.
SOLUTION: This catalyst comprises (A) an active-type magnesium halide and (B) a titanium compound borne thereon and having a Ti-halogen bond and (C) a cyclopolyene-based 1,3-diether of the formula [A, B, C and D are each C, N, O, S, etc.; (v), (x) and (y) are each 0 or 1; (u) and (z) are each 0-2; with proviso that A, B and C are each carbon atom, and (v), (x) and (y) are 1 when (u)=0]. The carbon atom at the site of 2 in the 1,3-diether belongs to a cyclic or polycyclic structure having 5-7 carbons, or (5-n) or (6-n') carbons plus hetero atoms selected from a group of (n) nitrogens and (n') (N, O, S and/or Si) (where (n) is 1 or 2 and (n') is 1, 2 or 3), containing 2 or 3 unsaturated bonds and being substituted with an alkyl, an aryl group, etc.
