Abstract:

To provide a new catalytic composition and a method for dimerization of isobutene (high-purity isobutene or mixture with other hydrocarbons) using the new catalytic composition.

The catalytic composition includes at least one Bronsted acid (shown by HB) dissolved in a nonaqueous liquid medium of general formula, Q₁⁺A₁^- (wherein Q₁⁺ is an organic cation; and A₁^- is an anion), and also includes an additive, Q₂⁺A₂^- (wherein Q₂⁺ is an organic cation including at least one alcoholic group; and A₂^- is an anion). A method for dimerization of isobutene using the catalytic composition is also provided.
