To provide a catalytic converter enabling the efficient use of a catalyst even when disposed in an exhaust passage with drift and capable of developing a proper purification performance according to the operating state of an engine.
This catalytic converter comprises a catalyst carrier 21 on which the catalyst is carried and allowing exhaust gases to pass therethrough to eliminate harmful components in the exhaust gases and a rotatingly drive part 31 circumferentially rotating the catalyst carrier 21 around a rotating shaft 32 along the flowing direction of the exhaust gases. The catalytic converter 21 is divided into a plurality of portions along the flowing direction of the exhaust gases and having different compositions of the precious metals of the catalyst.
