To improve workability and smoothing flow of exhaust gas in a catalytic converter retaining a monolith type catalyst carrier.
The catalytic converter A includes a main body 10 provided with a rube part 10a storing the monolith type catalyst carrier 1 and a cone part 10b formed on an end part of the tube part 10a, and an exhaust gas pipe 11 having a flare part 11b having an end part flared in a conical shape. A joint part 10c is formed on an end part of the cone part 10b of the main body 10, and the joint part 10c is inserted in and joined with the flare part 11b of the exhaust pipe 11. It is preferable that angle of the joint part 10c is roughly equal to conical angle of the flare part 11b and that an inner diameter of the joint part 10c is larger than an inner diameter of the exhaust gas pipe 11.
