This catalytic converter is provided with a ceramic carrier 10, a mat-like carrier holding material 11 to be wound around the ceramic carrier 10 and having a constant thickness, and a catalyst case 12 for housing the ceramic carrier 10 with the carrier holding material 11 wound around the ceramic carrier 10. This catalyst case 12 has a positioning means 13 brought in contact with an edge of the carrier holding material 11 in the inner surface thereof, and the positioning means 13 holds the ceramic carrier 10 through the carrier holding material 11.
