PURPOSE: To obtain an olefin oxide in a low catalyst concentration for a short reaction time with a simple operation at a high selectivity by epoxylating an olefin with H2O2 using an epoxylation catalyst such as a rhenium-oxo complex.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is obtained by allowing the olefin such as 1,5-cyclopentadiene to react with H2O2 in an organic solvent using the rhenium-oxo complex or a p-oxobis(porphyrinato-oxo-rhenium(V)) type binulear compound, which has octaethyl porphyrine, 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl porphyrin or 5,10,15,20-tetra-(4-pyridyl)-porphyrin as a legand, as the epoxylation catalyst to epoxylate. By using the catalyst, the high chemical stability of the catalyst is attained, the decomposition of H2O2 is prevented, only water is generated by the epoxylation and the separation and reutilization of the catalyst are facilitated.
