To suppress the variation in velocity distribution of exhaust gas to be introduced into a catalyst layer of an apparatus for treating the exhaust gas by using a catalyst.
The catalytic exhaust gas treatment apparatus is constituted to react a material to be treated and reactive gas by whirling the exhaust gas containing the material to be treated and the reactive gas and introducing the gases into the catalyst layer after regulating the flow thereof. As a flow regulating means for regulating the whirling flow of the exhaust gas and the reactive gas, the apparatus uses a sheet-like flow regulating plate 4 having a through-hole 4a near the center in such a manner that the whirling flow is once collected to the through-hole disposed near the center of the flow regulating plate and is then passed through the through-hole so that its flow path is expanded again and is introduced into the catalyst layer. The variation in the gas velocity of the exhaust gas flowing into the catalyst layer is thereby reduced and a desired decomposition rate is obtained.
