A heat-exchange catalyst carrier main body has an inlet face and an outlet face, and the inlet face is different from the outlet face. The main body has carrier walls, the walls specify a plurality of gas passages, and the gas passages have a main extending direction in the main body and are opened between the inlet face and outlet face and extended. The carrier walls are so arranged that heat is exchanged between the inlet face and outlet face. A catalytic material is deposited on the carrier walls and exposed to the gas passages. An impurity adsorbing and desorbing agent is deposited on the carrier walls and exposed to the gas passages. The agent adsorbs impurities at a first temp. and desorbs the impurities at a second temp. which is higher than the first temp. A casing 6 encloses the main body, and the casing 6 has an inlet 11 for supplying a gas to the inlet face of the main body and an outlet 12 for discharging the gas from the outlet face of the main body.
