Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the selectivity in the reduction of nitrogen oxides by using a β-hydroxycarbonyl compound as a reductant for a catalytic reduction method.
CONSTITUTION: Nitrogen oxides contained in exhaust gas is reduced in the presence of a catalyst using a reductant. In this reaction, a β-hydroxycarbonyl compound is used as the reductant which is expressed by a gerneral formula I (where, R1-R5 is hydrogen, alkyl group, etc., R1 and R2 are not hydrogen together, R1 may form a hydrocarbon ring with α carbon, R2 and R5 may be in a hydrocarbon ring). By using the reductant, the catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides is conducted efficiently with improved selectivity.
