Abstract:
To obtain a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for various kinds of diseases, e.g. diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, etc., by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor(PPAR)-α or -γ which is a nuclear transcription factor and relates to the diseases.
A medicine containing a benzothiophene derivative represented by the general formula (1) as an active ingredient is used. Since the compound powerfully operates the PPAR-α or -γ which is the nuclear transcription factor and has low toxicity, the compound is expected in effectiveness as the prophylactic or therapeutic agent for the various kinds of diseases relating to the PPAR-α or -γ.
