Title:
CATION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE FOR ALKALI METAL ELECTROLYSIS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5638490
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cation exchange membrane with excellent chemical resistance and oxidation resistance, by forming an electrically neutral layer having a cation exchangeable group and an anion exchangeable group together to a high- molecular membranelike article uniformly and chemically binding a cation exchangeable group and a fluorine atom. CONSTITUTION:A cation exchange resin layer comprises a membranelike article formed from a high-molecular substance finding a cation exchange group and fluorine and, especially, said membranelike article is preferably formed from one binding the fluorine atom to a carbon atom in an alpha position of a cationic exchange group. To both surfaces or one surface of this cation exchange layer or to an intermediate portion in a sandwichlike manner, one or more of an electrically neutral layer are formed. A ratio of a cation exchangeable group and an anion exchangeable group is in a range of 80:20-20:80 and, as the former, sulfate ester or carboxylic acid group are used and, as the latter, primary, secondery, tertiary amine, quaternary ammonium salt or the like are used. These groups are adhered or impregnated to a surface of a cation exchange membrane to form an electrically neutral layer.
