Title:
CATION EXCHANGER AND METHOD FOR REMOVING HEAVY METAL ION IN WASTEWATER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2011194385
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a disposable cation exchanger using plant biomass as a starting material, and to provide a simple method with high treatment efficiency of removing heavy metal ions in wastewater using the cation exchanger.

The method for removing heavy metal ions in wastewater includes the processes of: forming a suspended solid matter by adding a base to wastewater with heavy metal ions dissolved therein, making the wastewater basic, and converting at least some of the heavy metal ions into hydroxide and making it insoluble; coagulating and settling the suspended solid matter by adding an inorganic coagulant to the wastewater; converting the suspended solid matter into a gigantic flock by adding a polymer coagulant to the wastewater; and causing the cation exchanger to adsorb the heavy metal ions by passing the wastewater to an adsorbing layer containing the cation exchanger comprising leaf vegetables like mulukhiya. The heavy metal removing performance by the dry powder of leaf vegetable is, from higher performance order, mulukhiya, Brassica campetstris var. perviridis, Japanese honewort, potherb mustard, and spinach.
