PURPOSE: To improve the workability of a cation exchanger and to increase the ion selectivity by forming the cation exchanger with a sulfonated polymer of a polysulfone polymer contg. at least one -SH group in 1mol. or a cured body thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A polysulfone polymer contg. at least one -SH group in 1mol. is molded, cured and sulfonated to obtain a cation exchanger made of a sulfonated polymer or a cured body thereof. This cation exchanger has 0.5W3.5 milliequiv./g ion exchange capacity. The polysulfone polymer may be arom. polythio-ether sulfone or arom. polysulfone. The polysulfone polymer is preferably brought into a sulfonation reaction with a sulfonating agent in a liq. state by dissolution in a solvent which is stable to the sulfonating agent and dissolves the polysulfone polymer.
