Abstract:

To provide a process for cationic polymerization of an olefin, and to provide a catalyst usable for the cationic polymerization.

Polyolefin or its copolymer is produced by a process, in which an olefin disubstituted with a pair selected from the group consisting of isobutylene, isopentene, isoheptene, isohexene, isooctene, isodecene and isododecen is contacted with the catalyst in the presence of one or more solvents, wherein a catalyst system containing cations forming a cationic polymerization site and coexisting non-coordinating anions is used as the catalyst.
