Abstract:

To provide a coating composition capable of forming a printable surface on paper, paperboard, textiles, nonwoven fabrics, and wood and, especially useful for conducting inkjet printing thereon.

This coating composition for a fibrous base material is composed of 0.5-25 wt.% of a water-insoluble emulsion polymer, 25-75 wt.% of a pigment, and water, wherein the water-insoluble emulsion polymer contains 0.4-3 mol.% of one or more of cationic monomer units and at least 50 mol.% of one or more kinds of vinyl ester monomer units. The coating is applicable to a surface of the fibrous base material to which a liquid ink is fixed. Since the coating has cationic properties, the base material is furnished with excellent attachment points for an anionic ink and dye, so that bright and clear printed images are obtained.
