Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve following problems of a conventionally used solvent when a cationic polymerization reaction is performed by a solution polymerization method: a hydrocarbon-based solvent has a low polarity, and thereby, a formed polymer is easily precipitated and the synthesis of a polymer having a high molecular weight is difficult; a halogenated hydrocarbon-based solvent has an environmental problem; and an ether-based solvent has a problem in safety or the like.SOLUTION: A cationic polymerization method uses 4-methyl tetrahydropyran as a solvent for a cationic polymerization reaction of a monomer (for example, a vinyl ether compound, an N-vinyl compound or a styrene compound) and a protonic acid or a Lewis acid as a cationic polymerization catalyst.
