Abstract:
To provide a highly pure cationic surfactant having good appearance and excellent properties on handling, useful as a base for a softening agent for clothes, a conditioning agent for the hair, or the like, and containing an ester bond; and to provide an efficient method for producing the cationic surfactant.
The method for producing the cationic surfactant involves reacting a reaction raw material containing at least one kind of a compound represented by structural formula (1), with a dialkyl sulfate without a solvent. The hydroxy value of the reaction raw material is ≤110 (mg KOH/g), and each of A, B and C in the structural formula (1) contains ≤55 mass% compound having an ester group based on the whole amount of the reaction raw material.
