PURPOSE: To provide a cationically polymerizable styryloxy resin which can provide a crosslinked polymer, having good hydrolysis resistance and chemical resistance, derived by reacting a specified styrene compd. having a hydroxyl group with a compd. having a hydrocarbon chain and an NCO terminal.
CONSTITUTION: A styrene compd. represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 represent H or methyl; R3 and R4 represent H, a lower alkyl, or an alkoxy; and R5 represents a divalent hydrocarbon) [e.g. 4-(2'-hydroxyethoxy)styrene] is reacted with a compd. having a hydrocarbon chain and/or ring and an NCO terminal (e.g. toluene diisocyanate) to obtain a cationically polymerizable styryloxy resin having a urethane bond represented by formula II (wherein G1 represents an amino group, an aliph. thiol, an aliph. hydroxyl, or a hydrocarbon group having a valency of n and free from other group, these groups interfering with cationic polymn.; and n is an integer of not less than 2).
