PURPOSE: To perform effective machining through the application of strong impact pressure by providing at the opening of a nozzle a portion where the cross-sectional area of a flow passage sharply increases, when the surface of work is washed or machined by the injection from a nozzle into a liquid or a gas of a liquid supplied from a high-pressure pump.
CONSTITUTION: A constricted part 4 leading to an inner hole 3 is formed in the main body 2 of a cavitation jet nozzle 1, and a sharply broadening part 5 is formed on the downstream side of the constricted part 4. Therefore when a high-speed jet J of liquid is injected into a liquid L from the nozzle 1, a part of the liquid is made to flow back into the sharply broadening part 5 to produce a circulation S, and a very complex speed shearing layer is formed between the circulation S and the jet J. A number of microvortices are produced within the speed shearing layer, and a number of cavitation nuclei are formed in the center of the vortices to obtain a sufficiently developed cavitation jet CJ, by which strong impact pressure can be applied to work W for effective machining.
