A cell proliferation promoting agent composed of a protein satisfying the conditions of (1) forming a single band in gel electrophoresis, (2) having a molecular weight of about 57 kD by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis under reducing condition and (3) containing an amino acid sequence of Glu Met Lys Phe Phe Asp Tyr Xaa Asp is included in a composition such as medicine and food.
