Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve treating efficiency of blood by arranging two or more separated hollow fiber bundles in series so as to separate plasma from cellular blood component, and disposing a cleaning means for a counter-flowing cellular blood component between these bundles. CONSTITUTION: Recovered blood is supplied from a blood inlet 14 to the lumen of a bundle 11a of a hollow fiber film. When pressure or vacuum decompression is applied from a plasma permeating port 16 toward the outside of fibers, blood plasma containing non-cellular component, plasma proteins, solutes and salty cleaning solvents permeate from the bundle 11a to the shell side passing outside the module from the permeating port 16. Blood abundant with the cellular blood component passes from the lumen of the bundle 11a into a space 18 to meet with a cleaning solvent which comes into the module through a cleaning solvent port 17 and the space 18. The blood flow is cleaned here, and hemoglobin from red blood corpuscles is dissolved. The blood, along with the cleaning solvent, enters into the lumen of a fiber bundle 11b, and the cellular blood component is further concentrated, then the non-cellular blood component is removed. Hemoglobin permeates the wall of fibers, and is separated at the permeating port 16. The blood with increased hematocrit flows out from a blood outlet 15. Thus, efficiency is increased in cleaning and concentrating cellular blood component, and in removing plasma.
