Abstract:
On storing characters representative of destination names in a memory (26) of a portable telephone set by press down of input keys (16), a shift key (23) is put in one and the other of operated and nonoperated states if the characters of a first group, such as lowercase letters, and the characters of a second group, such as capital letters, should be used. The input and the shift keys are arranged on different surfaces of the telephone set so that the input keys can be pressed by a finger of, for example, the right hand with the telephone set held by the left hand and the shift keys manipulated by a finger of the left hand. The memory can be accessed by abbreviated telephone codes and can memorize the abbreviated telephone codes and corresponding full telephone numbers in addition to the destination names for display.
