Title:
CELLULOSE ACETATE EXCELLENT IN PHYSICAL STRENGTH, AND PRODUCTION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3942669
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-crystalline cellulose acetate with both average acetylation degree and viscosity-average polymerization degree at respective specific levels or higher, low in heat of generation when crystallized, excellent in moldability, capable of providing molded products of improved physical properties, esp. films of improved mechanical strength and flexiblity.
SOLUTION: This low-crystalline cellulose acetate has the following characteristics: average acetylation degree: ≥59%; viscosity-average molecular weight (DP): ≥290; the relationship between DP and the concentrated solution viscosity [η] determined by falling ball viscometry satisfy formula I (esp. pref. formula II); and heat of generation under crystallization from its molten state (ΔHcr): 5-16J/g. This cellulose acetate is obtained, for example, by activation treatment of cellulose with e.g. acetic acid followed by reaction of the cellulose with acetic anhydride to prepare cellulose triacetate which is then saponified to regulate the acetylation degree of the triacetate. In the reaction, it is preferable to use 10-15 pts.wt. of sulfuric acid as catalyst based on 100 pts.wt. of the original cellulose.
