To provide a cellulose derivative having good thermal plasticity, strength, heat resistance and suitable for molding processing, and a resin composition.

In the cellulose derivative, at least some of hydrogen atoms of hydroxy groups contained in cellulose are substituted with 1-7C hydrocarbon groups or 4-11C aliphatic acyl groups.
