To provide a cement-based surface covering material which is easily applied even on a vertical surface without causing sagging and can sufficiently follow up cracks occurring on a base, is easily given a finishing pattern such as a roller pattern and can be applied on the surface of the base even having ≤3 mm unevenness due to bubbles or the like to thereby make the existence of the unevenness disappear seemingly.

The cement-based surface covering material contains 0.1-5.0 pts.wt. polyvinyl alcohol, 0.2-5.0 pts.wt. cellulose derivative and 30-60 pts.wt. synthetic resin to 100 pts.wt. in total of cement and inorganic filler. The cellulose derivative suitably has 50-100 Pa×s viscosity in 2 wt.% aqueous solution at 20°C. The polyvinyl alcohol suitably has 3-80 mPa×s viscosity in 4 wt.% aqueous solution at 20°C.
