To perform proper centering, in an centering apparatus for performing the centering with respect to the width direction of a panel 10, by relatively moving a plurality of abutment parts 51 on one side arranged along one side edge of the liquid crystal display panel 10 with respect to the width direction and a plurality of abutment parts 61 on the other side arranged along the other side edge with respect to the width direction so that they abut against the side edge and the other side edge of the panel 10, respectively, wherein the centering is performed independently of the position of a sealing resin part 11 at the other side edge or the existence or the absence of the sealing resin part 11.
Each of the abutment parts 51 on the side is provided so as to be incapable of retreating with respect to the abutment direction against the side edge of the panel 10, and each of the abutment parts 61 on the other side is provided so as to be capable of retreating with respect to the abutment direction against the other side edge of the panel 10. A means 74 for pressing the other side is provided, which permits the retreating movement of each of the abutment parts 61 on the other side by the reaction force of the plurality of abutment parts 51 on the side transmitted via the panel 10, while pressing each of the abutment parts 61 on the other side in the abutment direction.
