PURPOSE: To reduce the thickness of a channel ring for a transient so that the sensitivity of a pump to thermal phenomena can be reduced by fastening a monolithic diffuser and return vane ring member between a suction member and a delivery member by means of tie bolts, and forming a pressure boundary by means of those three members.
CONSTITUTION: This segmental ring pump 1 comprises a suction head 11, a delivery head 13, an impeller attached to a rotating shaft, and a monolithic diffuser and return vane channel ring 30. The suction head 11, the delivery head 13, and the channel ring 30 are secured with tie bolts 15 extending between the suction head 11 and the delivery head 13. In this arrangement, the suction head 11, the delivery head 13, and the channel ring 30 form the pressure retaining boundary of the pump 1. At each end of the pump 1 is a bearing casing 24 and the shaft 20 is provided with a coupling 27 for connecting the pump 1 to an electric motor, a steam driven turbine or the like.
