PURPOSE: To make the device compact in the filter device in which main body contg. a ceramic filter is fixed with the upper and lower lids by providing a space occupied by the upper end of the ceramic filter in the upper lid.

CONSTITUTION: A liq. to be treated is introduced from a pipeline 12 at the lower inlet, the solid is removed by the ceramic filter 2, and the treated liq. is discharged from a pipeline 13 at the central outlet. The filter 2 is exchanged, when the filter 2 is clogged and its capacity decreases. In this case, the upper lid 5 is detached, the upper packing 7, retainer 8 and presser spring 9 are removed, hence the upper end of the filter 2 is exposed, and the filter is easily drawn up. Since the periphery of the lower packing 6 is fixed to the filter 2 by a fixing ring 15, the packing is discharged along with the filter 2. Furthermore, as the filter insertion hole 16 of the lower lid 4 is tapered, the filter 2 is easily inserted from above.
