PURPOSE: To provide a ceramic suitable for use at a high temperature by making the monoclinic zirconia of a specified ratio at room temperature and essentially balance cubic zirconia present in porous ceramic for high temperature use formed from zirconia.
CONSTITUTION: In this ceramic for high temperature use composed of a porous ceramic formed from zirconia, a monoclinic zirconia of about 12-about 80 wt.% at room temperature and essentially balance cubic zirconia are present. The ceramic for high temperature use is used for a molten metal filter and for a kiln member or the like. For the ceramic, high temperature resistant ceramic is obtained by the respective processes of forming an aqueous thixotropic slurry provided with a solid portion composed of the essentially about 25-about 98 wt.% of the monoclinic zirconia, about 0.5-about 5 wt.% of a stabilizer and less than 10 wt.% of a binder, impregnating a porous body by immersing it in the slurry, drying and heating the impregnated porous body, at least partially stabilizing the zirconia and forming the ceramic.
