Abstract:
To provide a ceramic honeycomb structure which has a greatly improved thermal shock resistance and reduces the chipping or breaking of the outer skin when put, as an exhaust gas cleaning carrier or a filter for capturing fine particles, into a housing by properly selecting a coating material for forming the peripheral wall of the ceramic honeycomb structure and a forming process for the wall.
In the ceramic honeycomb structure having many communicating holes partitioned by cell walls, the thermal expansion coefficient of the peripheral wall is lower than that in the diameter direction of the cell walls.
