Title:
CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE AND PRODUCTION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05254965
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the ceramic composite with superior oxidation resistance and strength by imbedding an assembly of refractory fiber having an interfacial coating in a curable preceramic polymer and subjecting it to shaping, curing, and heat treatment.

CONSTITUTION: The assembly of the refractory fiber (e.g. silicon nitride fiber) having the interfacial coating of boron nitride containing substance, etc., is imbedded in a preceramic matrix mixture containing the curable preceramic polymer which is not polysilane. Then the fiber assembly is formed in a desired shape and cured. The shaped imbedded assembly which is cured is heated in an inert atmosphere up to at least approximately 1,000°C for a time sufficient for the conversion of the preceramic polymer to ceramic to obtain the fiber- reinforced ceramic matrix composite.
