To provide a ceramic metal halide lamp capable of lighting with an electric arc stable even at the early stage of the lighting even when cerium iodide as metal halide is added into an arc tube.
In a ceramic metal halide lamp (L), while an arc tube (1) formed from translucent ceramics is accommodated in a translucent outer tube (10), cerium iodide as metal halide is added. In the outer tube (10), an arc tube support frame (F) in a closed loop shape includes two parallel support pillars (12R, 12L) also serving as a power supply member which extend in a longitudinal direction from a side of a base end (10A) formed with a cap (11) to a side of a top end (10B), and is fixed by welding to a stem lead (18B) accepting power supply via the cap (11). Three or more power supply members further including power supply wires 8A and 8B exist in a range of 180 degrees or more around the arc tube, and a group of the power supply members is provided at the same intervals to one another.
