To provide a ceramic multilayer structure capable of being suitably used as a filter material, a catalyst support or the like.
A porous ceramic sintered compact in which pores having a pore diameter larger than that of pores present in the surface layer part are present below the surface layer part and which exhibit a communicating pore structure as a whole is used as a base body and after the surface of the surface layer part of the porous ceramic sintered body is smoothened, a silica layer having the communicating pore structure composed of a nanometer sized fine pores is formed on the surface layer part. Further a zeolite layer provided with the communicating pore structure composed of nanometer sized fine pores is formed on the silica layer by forming a zeolite crystal by a hydrothermal synthesis and orienting to obtain the desired ceramic multilayer structure.
