Abstract:

To provide a method for recovering cerium ions as cerium oxide in good yields from a waste etchant containing chromium ions and cerium ions.

The method comprises a step 1 of adjusting the pH of a waste solution (W) containing cerium ions and chromium ions to 1 to 3, a step 2 of adding a chromium ion adsorptive chelate resin to the waste solution (W) to adsorb chromium ions thereon and filtering off the chelate resin to form a waste solution (X), a step 3 of regenerating the chelating resin, a step 4 of adding oxalic acid to the waste solution (X) to form cerium oxalate, filtering off the product, and washing the filtered product with ion-exchanged water, and a step 5 of firing the cerium oxalate.
