To provide a cermet tool and a method of its manufacture excellent in defect resistance and wear resistance.
This cermet tool 1 is constituted by a very hard layer 11 covering a tool surface and an inner part 13 covered with this hard layer 11 to be softer than it. An angular part of this cermet tool 1 is provided with an edge point tip end part 7 brought into contact with a cut material in the case of cutting work. A tip end of this edge point tip end part 7 is applied with R work with an R (radius of convature in a 0.04 to 0.16 mm range by honing work. That is, the edge point tip end part 7 is applied with so-called chamfering work by R chamfering, in this way, an R work part (exposure part) 15 with the inner part 13 in the tool exposed is formed. Accordingly, in this constitution, the hard layer 11 is arranged in the circumference of this R work part 15.
