To provide means to solve the problem of a chaff carbonizing apparatus that the most apparatus is a rotary kiln type and the apparatus itself tends to be upsized, wherein the chaff carbonizing apparatus used for supplying hot wind to a chaff dryer installed in a country elevator or the like uses the chaff as fuel.
The chaff carbonizing apparatus 71 is provided with a chaff supply feeder 90 and an ignition burner 95 on one side of a cylindrical furnace body 93, and also is provided with an exhaust part 96 for discharging an exhaust gas produced by the combustion of the chaff on another end of the furnace body 93. A plurality of air holes 101 for forming a swirling flow of air is arranged in the furnace body 93. The furnace body 93 is configured so that the chaff is combusted and carbonized while moving spirally along the inner circumference of the furnace body 93 by the swirling flow of the air. The outlet side of each air hole 101 is inclined toward swirling downstream side so that the air blowing direction is approached near the inner peripheral surface of the furnace body 93.
