Title:
CHAIN TENSIONER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5649451
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent a chain from being broken due to the excessiveness of its tension, by telescopically constituting a press member divided into two members at its end side and base part side. CONSTITUTION:A chain tensioner 10 is constituted by a cylinder body 11 and a press member 12. At the opening end side of said cylinder body 11 a pawl 15 is axially supported in the state of freely making a turning motion and meshed to a ratchet tooth 16 formed on the press member 12 to block the displacement of the press member 12 toward the side of the cylinder body 11. The press member 12 is divided into two members at its end side and base part side, and across a base part side member 12a and the cylinder body 11 a spring 20 is resiliently press mounted. An end side member 12b is floatably engaged to the peripheral portion in smaller diameter of the base part side member 12a and urged toward the outside of the cylinder body 11 by a spring member 23. Accordingly the looseness of a chain 4 can be absorbed by the protruding motion of the base part side member 12a while the tightness of the chain 4 due to the thermal expansion of an engine can be absorbed by the end side member 12b.
