PURPOSE: To uniformly chamfer a corner part on the end face of a round bar material according to the end face condition by arranging a driving device which advances/retracts a grinding wheel vertically or forward/backward according to the end face shape of a material to be machined.
CONSTITUTION: A chamfering angle preset and inputted to a chamfering angle setting device is computed by a computing device, and an adjustable point is found. At the same time, a grinding wheel forward/backward driving motor 601 and a grinding wheel vertically driving motor 301 are operated while a forward/backward position and a vertical position of a grinding wheel 5 are detected by means of a grinding wheel forward/backward position sensor 61 and a grinding wheel vertical position sensor 31 so that the grinding wheel 5 is moved to a moving point according to the abrasion of the grinding wheel 5. In this way, a chamfering angle is automatically computed, so that the grinding wheel 5 can be moved to a proper adjustable point, while the device can cope with the generation of a swelling or a shear drop, and consequently, a corner in the end part of the round bar can be uniformly chamfered.
